Today’s Text: Judges 14:5-9

Key Verse: Judges 14:9 (ESV): “He scraped it out into his hands and went on, eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey from the carcass of the lion.

Samson's life is evidence of what a man can dare and do when he is under the influence of God’s Spirit. This man’s appearance in the history of redemption is to demonstrate to mankind that the strength we all need in our lives to fight our battles and overcome is not ours. Just like Samson’s strength was not his, we too need divine enabling not just to push back the frontiers of darkness; but to put all the forces of the enemy under our feet. What we need in our lives to live victoriously in the spirit of God. That is what enabled Samson. That is what enables us. The Hebrew word from the spirit is the same as the word for wind. This is probably because the ways and effects of both are similar. We may see the effects and activities of the wind but no one sees its rising nor can trace its course. The angel of the Lord had appeared to his father and mother to intimate them on God’s plan for Samson, yet in verse 4, we read: “His father and mother did not know that it was from the Lord, for he was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines.”

Is it not true that “the wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit?! God’s working in your life cannot be explained if you let God’s Spirit take control of you. Your life will be filled with occurrences that men can only trace to the Spirit, which will defy scientific speculations and calculations. The parable of honey from the carcass symbolizes how God brings sweetness out of an undeserving life as long as he is under the influence of God’s spirit. God is able to fill that empty life of yours with many good things. A life parented by the Spirit of God gives honey from the carcasses of life. It is the same life that caused Aaron’s staff to bud. It caused Moses’ staff to swallow Egyptians’ magical staffs. That is the life to be desired. It is the description of a life fully yielded to God. That was the life of Samson before the sin. It is never self-impelled. It is not self-directed.

Quote for the Day: “Show me a life parented by the Spirit of God; and I will show you a life that gives honey from the carcasses of life.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, may I fully discover who I am meant to be. May I never lose sight of the infinite possibilities in me. Please give me the confident that comes from knowing you in my life — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
