Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, April 19, 2024
Today’s Text: Psalm 119:1-8
Key Verse: Psalm 119:3 (ESV): "Who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways."
A fish must honor its aquatic nature by staying only in water to survive. The hawks do not give up the air for the water in order to feel or do betrer. A sailboat honors its design to successfully and freely navigate the waters. Unfortunately, humans are never satisfied with their creative order andpurpose. That's why a dark skinned person seeks to be lighter; and a man prefers to be a woman or vice versa; and some abuse the creative order of human sexuality.
Today’s text calls us to honor God's design to live a life of true freedom. The psalmist demonstrated this understanding when he wrote, 'Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the design of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways.' This passage highlights the importance of aligning our choices with God's design and ways for us, just as the sailor must align their boat with the wind and water.
In the context of this Psalm, which is written as an acrostic poem, we are called upon to express our love for God's law and ensure our desires align with and follow it. We must recognize that true freedom does not come from rebelling against our maker, who in his wisdom made us and grace us in keeping with his glorious purpose. It comes from honoring and living according to God's design only.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to honor your design for our lives, just as the sailor honors the design of their boat. Give us the wisdom to align our choices with your will, that we may experience the freedom of living according to your ways — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
