How Great a Love

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, February 14, 2022

Today’s Text: 1 John 3:1-6

Key Verse: 1 John 3:1 (NASB): “See how great a love the Father has given us, that we would be called children of God; and in fact we are. For this reason the world does not know us: because it did not know Him.”

Each day, not just on any special day, this text summons our attention to the kind of love we enjoy through God’s matchless love to us. Every line excites us to adore this as uncommon and lavish. Brethren, God lives us so much. Reflecting on this fact will quicken our thankfulness, and motivate our willingness to obey His will. An appreciation of God’s love for us will keep up the joy of our faith and comfort us when we face afflictions in/from the world. Yes, our text reminds us that though we are traduced and trampled by the world, they cannot hate us so much as God loves us.

Therefore, as God's children, we may be straightened, threatened, or bullied by/in the world but we should not be bothered; rather, we should be satisfied and content with God’s matchless and overreaching love for us. Nothing can beat our apparent reverential awe of the wonders of His love for us. As we behold God’s manner of love, hate and resentments melt away; the power of alienation loses its grip over us and we are brought into a newness in which we may be called the sons of God. That same love conquers our selfishness and stirs us up godly affection for others. Yes, even the unlovable, the enemies of the way, and those who despise-fully use us. As God’s children, His matchless love should motivate us to love one another.

Quote for the Day: “As recipients of the grace of God, we are constrained to output a proportionate love which God in Christ Jesus first inputs upon us.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please bless us with love, O merciful Father of love; that we may love as you love! That we may show patience, tolerance, kindness, caring, and love to all — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
