Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, April 1, 2020
Today’s Text: Ezekiel 14:1-11
Key Verse: Ezekiel 14:3 (NIV): ”Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all?”
At the time of this prophecy, the folly of a people who think that their God is not god-enough or good enough had befallen Israel. With impunity and no remorse, they had whored after the Syrian, Chaldean, Phoenician and the Egyptian gods. Such multitude of the idols perversed their hearts and turned them away from the Lord.
In spiritual context, and as an implication for this generation: idols represent and connote vanity. Ours multitude of vanities serve as huge stumbling-blocks before our faces, and prevent us from thinking right. We cry to God but the gods of mammon, bacchus, and dionysus which we pursue form a great hindrance before us. Like He did in Israel’s days of vanity, God is calling on us to repent. Happy new month.
Quote for the Day: "In our prosperity, our age has been seduced into idolatrous lifestyle; in our perplexity, we must return to the Lord.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please have mercy on us and turn us back to you. Rid us of all vanity. Heal us of all diseases, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
