Today’s Scripture Threshing for Monday, June 10, 2019
Today’s Text: Hebrews 6:9-15
Key Verses: Hebrews 6:12 (ESV): “...so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
Time and eternity can never forget John Wesley, who, with his brother Charles and George Whitfield, laid the foundation of the Methodist movement within Protestant Christianity. But can the place of Susanna, his mother, who through uncommon patience raised him along with Charles and 13 successful and godly other siblings? Her husband once asked her, “I marvel at your patience! You have told each of the children the same thing twenty times!” She replied, “Had I spoken the matter only nineteen times, I would have lost all my labor.”
Patience is a godly virtue that is mostly despised and lacking in our generation. However, God is aware of our frame. He knows that we are greatly influenced by examples, being imitators by nature. To a great extent we have become what we are by unconscious or conscious imitation. Therefore, since God does not want us to lose our labor, He exhorts us to learn the culture of patience, and follow examples of godly people who through patience obtained the promise.
Quote for the Day: “Learning from godly patient influence will help us to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, etc.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, teach me to be patient, when all day long my heart is troubled by little, but troublesome crosses, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
