Today’s Scripture Threshing for Saturday, May 4, 2019
Today’s Text: John 14:22-31
Key Verse: John 14:27 (LEB): “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you—not as the world gives, I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.”
My mom, Lydia, sleeps in Christ’s peace and was laid to her rest. I have received countless “may her soul Rest In Peace” from all over the world—a wish which I’m thankful for, but which is most unnecessary or a wasted prayer if she had not find peace in/through Christ already when she was alive and had the choice. That’s why, in gratitude to God, that she found peace with Christ, I have requested that “In Peace!” be boldly inscribed on her tombstone just like the catacombs of Rome still has it upon many First Century Christian's tombstone till today.
When Jesus walked this earth, men of the the First Century lived eluded of true peace. They gave their children names such as Irenaeus and Irene, as an indication of their heartfelt desire for "peace." It was also their custom to greet one another with the salutation, shalom ("Peace be with you”) — another clue that they valued peace. But peace is never a result of prayer, wishes or desire: peace comes as a result of a choice backed by an action. While our distress and alarm are so intense, and the need for peace clearer than crystal, we can only find true peace when we come to Christ. Anyone who dies without knowing Jesus is lost forever, and for such, peace is lost forever.
Quote for the Day: “We face the greatest season of pretensive, superficial, deceptive, and utterly false peace today. Our kings, rulers, politicians and religions promise peace but no reality corresponds. For whereas the promise is peace; the delivery is sword, terror and death. But our Lord’s solemn promise remains: “My peace I give to you—not as the world gives!” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank you because of your peace, which transcends all human comprehension that is mine. Please, Lord, help me to walk in your peace which flows from obedience and submission to You. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayer,
