Our Text: John 4:16-38
Key Verse: John 4:34 (ESV): “Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.”
The rare encounter with Jesus in this text reveals a lot to us about how far we may have drifted from true worship in our generation. If worship is truly genuine, it should not just be gathering of extraordinary saints, but an open opportunity to ordinary people: a place or an experience where or when people that are lost, broken, utterly despised, having no claim on God, or knowledge of Him can come and find hope.
This woman was an outcast and looked down upon by her own people. During biblical times, drawing water and chatting at the well was the social highpoint for women: they always walked in group to the well, but no one would walk with her. She has to walk alone to draw water from the community well. But she was the highpoint of divine target in any true and spiritual worship. To others, that woman was ostracized and marked as immoral, an outcast; but for Jesus, she stands there as an evidence or a prospect of an accomplished work.
Quote for the Day: “A truly spiritual encounter brings fractured peopled before the Savior, and sends them forth redeemed and commissioned!” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us learn the blessing of spiritual humility; and draw us to yourself in sincere spiritual thirst—in Jesus name. Amen.
