Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, February 23, 2020
Our Text: Titus 1:10-16
Key Verses: Titus 1:13 (NIV): “This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith.“
Paul’s intent was to write a cheerful epistle to all his spiritual children; but though the Cretans pastored by Titus were saved, they lacked the finesse and decorum becoming of Christ’s followers. So, it turned out that he wrote a warning letter. They were disorganized, and had carelessly allowed an unguarded coming-in of some miscreants between the brethren. Intentional ChristianIty was giving way to libertinist lifestyle. Therefore, Paul had to use his apostolic authority to instructs that only qualified and matured believers need be trusted for ministry positions in every city on the island of Crete.
The Church will always need to contend for the faith because the Christian life will never be without opposition. Man’s archenemy will always seek to spiritually attack us. To raise correct believers who will understand the hassling from the devil, the dangers we face, and how to know stand against them, it is priority for the church to sustain a sound organized doctrinal structure under mature leaders. This is intentional Christianity, and a sure way to win our world for Christ.
Quote for the Day: "Everything seems compromised in the generation; but no one can or should compromise the integrity and essence of the church.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, enlist me each day as your trusted and dogged defender of the faith. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
