Joy of the Lord

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, April 30, 2019

Today’s Text: John 15:1-11

Key Verses: John 15:11 (ESV): “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

Are we aware of what it is to have the joy that Jesus gives? The world looks for material joy; but that is no joy at all. Jesus’ joy was more from self-sacrifice, which is so strange to this world. But He laid us that sublime example. His joy is from benevolence—goodwill to all men—laying don His life for those who hate Him. His joy is doing the will of the Father and of securing His Father's approval.

What do we think of the joy of the Lord today? The more goodness we receive? Blessing with earthly goods? Living leisurely life? Today’s text, and its reference to “my joy” has more to do with remaining in connection with what gladdens Jesus than with avoiding pains and struggles in our lives. If we harken back to this text, then we’d realize that joy is always available to us when we remain in Christ—whatever life brings. It is only when we understand these words of Christ, and when they truly guide us that we’d begin to see how true joy differs from mere happiness.

We may have good and bad days. Ups and downs may be so inevitable. But we’d never be robbed of our joy if we allow the virtue of true joy of the Lord to grow in us. It is not just what our face would reflect to others; but it will radiate from our inner being and tell the world of who we are and represent.

Quote for the Day: “Happiness isl too fleeting, but the joy enduring. Happiness tends to look towards things, but joy is never in things, but in us.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, you are my strength and my redeemer. You are my healer and my provider. Lord, I give all my worries and cares to you. I lay it all at your feet. Fill me with your joy and take away cares and worries — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayer,
