Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, July 20 2019
Our Text: 1 Chronicles 4:1-10
Key Verse: 1 Chronicles 4:10 (KJV): “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, we areHi are yousaying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”
One great and amazing part of the short story of Jabez is the fact that prayer can make any unknown man notable, and a man of vanity nobility. While not so much of dent images, but there was no singular man of nobility in his lineage. Even their odd names sounds more troubling than intriguing. The inspired Chronicler presents us such an incredible and valuable lesson from one man, among many, who stood out because of his faith in God — a man who was not just seeking a blessing or an enlargement from God; but had a genuine eagerness for Him.
Jabez prayer, “that thine hand might be with me” is an old form of “Lord, please tabernacle or make your dwelling with me.” This is how godly people sought and are seeking personal affinity with God. We all have a great lesson to learn from Jabez piety and prayer today. The way to true honor is seeking and maintaining personal eagerness for God.
Quote for the Day: “Mundane honor and blessings are great but nothing compares the honor proceeding from personal relationship with God who makes all conceivable blessing and honor.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: I need You in my life, most gracious God. There’s no tender voice like Yours,
No peace and no honor except in You. Lord bless me with the true wealth of Your presence, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
