“Learning to Lean on God”

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 2, 2021

Today’s Text: 1 Kings 17:1-7

Key Verse: 1 Kings 17:5 (NIV) — “So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there."

God knows how best to fit us for our occasions and qualify us for our assignments. He does not always make His men in the palace. Yes, He can if it consistent with His plans and pathway for us; otherwis, He may pull us out of the palace and plunge us into the back side of the wilderness to show us His power like He did with Moses. He may send us out of our country, from among our people to a country is has not yet shown us, like Abraham. He sent John the Baptist to the wilderness where he only wore clothing made of camel's hair, a leather belt around his waist, and only fed on locusts and wild honey.

Why will God take His men through patched and difficult places? We can find answers in scriptures. “Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.” (Deuteronomy 8:2) God always loves to teach us His providence and power. We must learn that men do not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. It was by His word that Elijah was led to Cherith, laterally taken out of public ministry and view so that he may learn God's provision, protection and direction. God wants us to learn to lean on Him. It's so very easy to assume and presume things are working by own own power or might when we are in places and position where we can live on efforts, trust the paychecks, trust friends, or lean on family. God is able to lavish us with those blessings; but He wants us to learn to always lean on Him.

God wants to determine the direction will should go: Elijah went and did according unto the word of the LORD. When we follow God's way, His invisible hands cause us to find whatever we need in Him. I have been in situations in which my entire life, family and ministry relied absolutely on what God would do next for us to live. Humanly speaking, it was not funny. We had a feeling of what it looks like to live in Cherith, where God hides us. God used this season to teach us how Elijah walked with Him in faith and obedience, and found water in a season of severe drought; and found food from a most impossible source. Would you also learn to lean on God?

Quote for the Day: “God knows how and when to orchestrate the disappearance of His men from public scene to help, not to hurt them.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I acknowledge my total dependence on You at every moment. Please help me to lean on You, believing that all I have is from You, Yours and for Your glory, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
