Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, May 12, 2024
Today’s Text: 1 Timothy 5:2, Proverbs 31:10-31
Key Verse: Proverbs 31:28 (NIV): "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."
Show me a beautiful rose bush, whose petals are delicate and soft, yet resilient and strong. And I will show you the natural image of a mother's love to us as Christians. Just as the rose bush nurtures its blooms, a mother nurtures her children, providing sustenance, protection, and care. The book of Proverbs pictures a virtuous woman as a mother, who is a blessing from God, and her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband praises her because she is a crown to him. The picture of such mother's love is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional, reflecting the very heart of God.
As we celebrate Mother's Day today, let us remember the legacy of spirituality and godliness which biblical mothers have left behind. Let us honor their example by also living with a clear conscience, with our faces set like flints, and holding to our convictions even when it's difficult. Ask yourself: How can I show appreciation for my mother's upright life and legacy? How can I strengthen my roots in Christ, just like my mother has done? And how can I be an example of integrity and selfless love to my own family and community?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of mothers and mother figures in my life. Help me to honor their legacy of uprightness and integrity, and give me the grace to follow in their footsteps. May my life be a testament to your love and a blessing to those around me — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
