Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, September 26, 2024
Today's Text: Matthew 10:42, Mark 9:41
Key Verse: Matthew 10:42, (NIV): "And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward."
Dwight L. Moody, a renowned evangelist, recounted a transformative encounter he had while preaching in Chicago. He visited an impoverished widow who offered him a simple cup of cold water, apologizing for not having more to give. However, Moody was deeply moved not just by the cup of cold water, but by the significance of her sincere selfless act. This is consistent with the words of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who teaches that even the smallest acts of kindness, like giving a cup of cold water, hold immense value when done in His name.
This morning, God is reemphasizing the great value in the little things of life that we do. A cup of cold water id used as a perfect illustration because though it seem insignificant, it matters to God who sees the heart behind the gesture. The widow's offering to Moody was little, but it reflected her generosity and love. There is great promise of reward for all kindness given. Jesus assures us that no act of kindness goes unnoticed in the eyes of God. Part of what would determine our rewards in heaven is our faithfulness in small things.
There is a transformative power that comes with kindness and compassion. Jesus changed the world by exemplifying selfless love, He showed us that true strength lies not in power or status, but in serving others. As followers of Christ, we're called to emulate His kindness, forgiving others, and showing mercy in all the little things that we do: at home, at work and community. Your little kindness will heal someone's emotional wounds. It will help our world to be a better place by building bridges between people and drawing them to reflect God's love.
Action Steps: Look for opportunities to serve others, no matter how small. Recognize the value in everyday acts of little little kindness.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for word to me this day, please help me to recognize the significance of small acts of kindness. Fill my heart with grace. Let me always reflect Your love and kindness to thirsty and needy souls. Help me so that my actions proclaim the Gospel, making a tangible difference in the lives of those around me — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
