Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Today’s Text: Hebrews 12:1, 2
Key Verse: Hebrews 12:2 (ESV): “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
The writer of Hebrews pictures the Christian life as a race in which we must not allow distractions or we’d get off track. He admonishes that to keep on the racecourse, we must keep our eyes carefully focused on Jesus. My daughter, Precious, exemplified this quite well. She subjects herself to rigorous discipline in order to run good races
and she made it to the Olympic. We must, as believers, apply this principle to the Christian race. Jesus’ cross already gives us the best preparation to endure pain, hostility and injustice.
Our Lord endured the ignominy and suffering of the cross, turn the cross to a milestone and by it earn us salvation—a spiritual joyful coronation of victory—and by it become the author and finisher of our faith. That’s why we must look at Him. He founded a course of endurance; and we must follow. He finished the race; we must finish ours. He set us example; we must run with endurance, the goal set before us. He sits at the right hand of God, as our great intercessor and mediator; and we must look up to Him for daily strength and help.
Quote for the Day: “In Christ, the believer’s race is on, tough and intense; but his goal is invisibly before his eyes as long as he keeps seeing Jesus”_ (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please give me the grace to always look unto You for everything I need in life, in Jesus Christ’s name! Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
