Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, January 12, 2025
Today’s Text: Psalms 103:1-22
Key Verse: Psalms 103:2 (NIV): ”Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all His kind deeds.”
Sometimes we as Christians need to stop along life's road and look back. Although it might have been winding and steep, we can see how God directed us by His faithfulness. When the Psalmist looked back, he was able to look up with gratitude for the deliverances the Lord has wrought; the way He has been led; the blessings God has bestowed; the victories He has won; and the encouragements God has always given him, etc. When we face difficulties, we sometimes forget God's past faithfulness. We see only the detours and the dangerous path. But look back and you will also see the joy of victory, the challenge of the climb, and the presence of your traveling Companion who has promised never to leave you nor forsake you.
God wants us to pause and count all our blessings. See how God has blessed us unimaginably. Even, the whole of creation itself is a blessing, heritage and a source of life for all of us. Besides, for the fact that the Lord God of heaven takes so great thoughts of us, calls for gratitude and thankfulness. This was how David thought that made him to praise God in all things. If we too look back, we’d see how God lifted us, commoners that we were and seated us with kings and princes. Like David, we too would praise God and invite all heaves and earth do so with us.
We are like David in may occasions of God’s goodness to us if we think deeply. Perhaps, the difference between most of us and David is that we forget God’s goodness while he doesn’t. You may not wear a crown like David; but you must not forget how you survived your difficult childhood that no one thought you would. Or, did you forget how you escaped the teeth of bares and lions. Life’s giants terrified you but you came through with trophies. You suffered persecution and survived many rebellions household enemies. You experienced the pain and loneliness of sickness. But God delivers you in all, to preserve you in accordance with the promise.
These are things that David remembered which in our cases, we are all so apt to forget. He thought remembering is key to gratitude. So he charged himself never to forget. Brethren, it’s so easy to focus our pains and forget our gains when we only consider the toilsome way we’ve been. But, today, we are charged to remember that we are debtors of God’s manifold graces daily. We must look back to the fact all benefits and blessings we have received come from God, and we must never forget to look up and give him thanks.
Action Steps: Never focus on negativity. Look back to what God is doing in your life. Walk in gratitude. Never forget any kindness received.
Quote for the Day: ”We may never realized how weak our shackles are, and ready to be dismantled; or how feeble our walls are and easily broken down until we try the unstoppable power of praise.” (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, God of abundant grace and mercy, slow to anger, and rich in loving-kindness. Help me to remember Your goodness continually, and to be grateful for Your blessings, both great and small. Forgive me for the times I have held onto bitterness and resentment.
