Loving God for a Troubled World (Part 1)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, September 20, 2023

Today’s Text: Matthew 4:18–22

Key Verse: Matthew 4:19 (NKJV): “Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.””

The love that walked by the Sea of Galilee in the person of Jesus, who recruited two brothers, Simon and Andrew into a most grand men fishing agenda, is still walking our world today. The question, however, is: Like those unschooled men, would we also sign the contract of our lives to embrace the love of Jesus? They have had troubled times and business, and were mending their nets just like we too grapple with real life issues. But it was in the middle of their trouble that the love of Jesus reached for them. And each man immediately left their boat, nets and father, and followed the unstoppable love of Jesus.

God’s love is still reaching out for and to us—men and women—today. More than boats and nets, He wants us to put aside our shortcomings and pain. He is calling us to forsake our limitations and vanity and join Him as veritable witnesses of His marvelous love to our troubled world. Like them, you may not be the finest or most refined of men! You may be a man with broken nets, heart, relationships, or life. Or maybe, like John and James, the only aspect of your life that isn’t broken is even too hard — your temperament, "sons of rage.” Would you yield God’s love today and follow the Savior? His love is so soft and strong, able and willing to melt anyone who yields to Him. Today, throughout this series, and every passing day of our lives, God sets the searchlights of His love upon us. Are we willing and ready, like Simon, Andrew, James and John to give up our little for His much?

Quote for the Day: “There’s no power on earth greater than God’s love: come broken and the love of God will mend you, hardened and it will melt you.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Lord Jesus, I am grateful that You are indeed powerful and loving. I ask You for the power of Your love to fill my heart. I pray that You would strengthen my roots and establish my life firmly in Your love — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
