Today’s Text: Hebrews 10:19-25
Key Verse: Hebrews 10:25 (ESV): “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Two little sisters were home alone, Funke, the older wanted them to play school; but Fumbi, the younger wasn’t into ii because she hates to go or think about school. When Funke insisted on playing school, little Fumbi finally and most surprisingly agreed. “Okay!” “Just mark me absent!” She said with a stern look. I’ve found the same attitude in the church among many believers who play church but are indifferent to its true essence and necessity.
Paul’s earliest recipients were part of a community that was turn apart between Judaism, Christianity, and convert Greeks. Discriminations and doctrinal disparities marked the community, making the people to often intentionally avoid gathering together with other called out ones. Therefore, the apostle rises up to challenge and command each believer, in the name of the Lord, not to despise the act of assembling, or a gathering together, with other believers. The word for assembly in the text is the same as church. We must not be marked absent in worshipping together. A careful look at the construct of the admonition implies that there is fault in the neglect. We are not playing church. You can’t afford to be marked absent.
Quote for the Day: “Man’s most profound opportunity is the one that avails Him a face to face encounter with God by the instrumentality of the blood of Jesus, in company of angels, and in fellowship of saints.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, look upon your people with mercy, and heal our dysfunction sense of fellowship; for we are divided in so many ways. Give us the Spirit of unity, unite us in fellowship, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
