Today’s Scripture Threshing for Sunday, April 28, 2019
Today’s Text: Micah 7:18-20
Key Verses: Micah 7:18 (ESV): “Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.”
God is matchless in all His ways?! This is an understatement when one considers the perfections of His nature; the works of His hands; the blessings of His goodness, His providence and protection; and above all, His pardoning grace and mercy over us. We can all doubtlessly stand on Prophet Micah‘s side in his solemn submission that there is no God besides Jehovah — no, no one!
No one except the Lord can take our sins off of us, and lay them on his own innocent son. Even if they sought a way of punishing their son; they wouldn’t suffer him to die for others’ sins.
When we describe God as matchless, like Micah, we are not attempting to bring God into any form of comparison. There’s no basis for comparison at all. Micah’s intention is not make us feel that other gods have any existence, but speaks to naturally remind us of the meaning of his name Micah, which is ‘Who is like Jehovah?’ and bring false hopes in the belief of other nations into question, who worship vain things as though they do really exist.
Quote for the Day: “God’s mercy is matchless by all means and standard. In Him, justice is done with full delivery of mercy. Men may override justice to give mercy; but Christ satisfies justice by His death to qualify us for His matchless mercy.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord, You’re full of mercy and delights in steadfast love. Help me to love you more deeply, and give my life as a reward of your sacrifice—in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
