Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, March 21, 2020
Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 10:6-13
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:13 (WEB): ”No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
Joseph’s memory brings to mind how he endured betrayal from family and yet shined through. David’s is how he bounced back from several devastating personal failures. For great prophets including Moses and Elijah, we learned how they suffered intense criticism.
Nehemiah faced discouragement of/at the highest levels. Peter was humbled in his moment of cowardice and denial. John Mark suffered rejection and abandonment. Jesus, our Lord, was rejected by His own; and the few who followed him were fast asleep when he needed them to be up and praying. When He needed his boldest disciple’s backing, He found a betrayal.
In today’s text, Apostle Paul, after diverse warning and exhorting, turns attention on personal encouragement. He wants to make sure we do not become hopeless or despairing if or when God permits tough times in our lives. The premises of his charge are that: 1.) whatever may be the case, we are never alone—it is common to man, 2.) God gives equal strength to every trial, and 3.) He always makes a way of escape for us.
Quote for the Day: "Whenever God brings man to his knees, He wants him to quit struggles; but turn his total dependence on God, and humble himself in faithful endurance and the Lord will lift him up again.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, reach out to me with your outstretched merciful hands, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
