Today’s Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, May 14, 2019
Today’s Text: Luke 22:39-46
Key Verse: Luke 22:42 (ESV): saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
No one can imagine how the world’s shadow casts itself on our religious heart. We chant “your will be done” but we act “but not in your way” in reality. We know what God’s will is, but we simply and practically have no intention, whatsoever, of seeing to it that it’s done.
We say those words with religious compulsion, not from spiritual conviction. But we need to realize that until confession mingles with faith, religion is vain. For, except we are ready to seek and do His will, we demonstrate disbelieve in His wisdom and love. In His love and wisdom, He withstands us from things we assume make us happy; and commands us to live the very life that our flesh thinks is too hard. We often seek the nearest exit from our dark tunnels, but God always wants us to go through. But our Lord laid us example: regardless, it should always be, “nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
Quote for the Day: “Until confession mingles with faith, religion is vain.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, you know me better than I know myself. I know you love me and have glorious plans for me. Please, Lord, do not allow my desires to blind me to your will. Whenever I pursue any plan contrary to yours for me, throw up an obstacle I cannot get past, and help me to do your will, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
