Today’s Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 15, 2019
Today’s Text: Luke 5:1-11
Key Verse: Luke 5:5 (ESV): “And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”
We all have things in our lives that we don’t like to do, or want to do except for the compelling voice behind the tasks. However, God brings before us today, an example of a man of like passion as we are, who, after having toiled in vain all night, faced a charge to do what has failed (several times) yet once more.
If we all could learn to come to moments of “nevertheless at thy Word” when God’s counsel or command seems so improbable or impossible, moments of willingness to trust the word of Jesus and make the trial—we all would be in like manner blessed. God never disappoints. What He seeks from us is a trustful reliance and confidence in His Word, and He will bestow to us every needful blessing. A simple submission that brings us to our knees, and gets us to confess, “nevertheless at thy Word” can end any terrible nightmare of fruitless toil in our lives.
Quote for the Day: “Faith in Christ, and obedience to Him are necessary precursors to any blessing a man can ever desire or receive.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I know that no one can let down my net for me, but me! I bow my knees because I face real issues that contend with faith; but I ask for a humble spirit that is willing to submit and allow you nevertheless—in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
