Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, August 15, 2024
Today’s Text: John 9:1-9
Key Verse: John 9:4 (HCSB): "We must do the works of Him who sent Me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work."
This is one of the best scriptural texts in which our Lord Jesus emphasizes the importance of faithful obedience and dedication to God's will, especially recognizing our limited time on earth and the urgency of completing the Father's work. As followers of Christ, He has set us an example. We too have a limited time to fulfill our purpose and serve God.
Are there areas in your life where God is calling you to be more faithful, obedient and dedicated? God wants us to follow our Lord's example by surrendering to His will and to start working on those areas. We need faithfulness, obedience and urgency to be good servants of God. The Pharisees and other distractions will always rare their ugly heads to debar us from our divine mission. But like Jesus we must be driven by the necessity of our divine obligation "while it is day."
We must be aware of the limited time we have to complete our mission. "Night is coming" for all of us. This might symbolize the end of our' earthly sojourn or old age- "when no one can work." These are phrases used by Jesus to emphasize both the urgency of His mission and the limitations of human ability. We do not have all the time in this world to complete His work. We are limited. The law of diminishing return comes upon us. Time happens to us. Aging befalls us. And, we must learn from the contrast between day and night to create and live by a sense of urgency.
Finally, if Jesus, our Lord is so committed to His divine mission, aware of the limited time He has, and the urgency of completing God's work, we too must. However, we must remember that urgency does not imply rushing. But it means we are prioritizing our divine assignment and taking deliberate actions towards completing any and every assignments He has committed to our hands.
Action Step: Ask God for clear guidance and understanding of the assignment. Write the assignment and make it concrete. Establish a timeline for completion. Seek the right mentor and partners for support and encouragement. Take action. Don't wait. Start working on the assignment right away.
Quote for the Day: "God's assignments are not based on our abilities, but on our availability to be used within the frame of time alloted us." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to prioritize Your work in my life and to be faithful in obeying Your will.- Give me a sense of urgency to use my time wisely and to make the most of every opportunity to serve You. Help me to be a faithful servant, completing the work You have assigned to me within the time alloted to do them — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
