Today’s Scripture Threshing for Monday, June 3, 2019
Today’s Text: Matthew 8:1-13
Key Verses: Matthew 8:3,7 (ESV): “And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed... And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.””
Leprosy is such a physical skin disease that carries a lot of spiritual symbolism. Anyone affected was regarded as unclean; and his or her touch brought defilement and religious disqualification. All men are spiritually leprous before God, but for the willful sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. Today’s text sets before us, two situations of infirmities. But the common pertinent lesson is that God is ever willing. Wether we are sin strucked and covered with defilement, or bound and distant by oppression. Jesus is ever willing to make us clean, and to heal us.
He is willing but, like the leper, we must come to Him. He is is willing, but like the centurion came forward to him, we must take the step of faith. But see how uncommon the centurion’s faith was. In their days, those who sought the Lord’s healing, craved for presence, or touch, even if it were only the hem of the garment—the blind, the dumb and deaf, the palsies—all sought material signs. But here is one who believed in the power of the word of Jesus, and asked for nothing more. You too can be healed of any form of illness right now, where you are, if you believe in the ever willing Jesus.
Quote for the Day: “Men always get more with God: leprosy was clean, the centurion’s servant got a cure of his disease, and the master got the approval of his faith.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to cast away all my limiting burden of sin and sicknesses, and reach out, by faith, to your ever willing love. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
