Parable of the Bullet Holes

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, July 27, 2023

Today’s Text: Isaiah 35:1-10

Key Verse: Isaiah 35:3 (ESV): “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.”

God has a nature that almost most Christians have failed to learnt from. He is a God who loves to give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. Unfortunately, the body of Christ almost always does the opposite. Even in 2 Corinthians 12, Apostle Paul quotes our Lord saying to him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God seeks every way to give power to make up for any weaknesses we have. In this text, and in Hebrews 12:12, He commands us to make sure weaknesses are strengthened among us.

During World War II, fighter planes would come back from battle with bullet holes. The Allies sought to strengthen the areas that were most commonly hit and damaged by enemy fire to reduce the number of casualties. But an expert pointed out that another way to look at the data is perhaps, the reason certain areas of the planes weren't covered in bullet holes was that planes that were shot in those areas did not return. This insight led to the armor being re-enforced on the parts of the plane where there were no bullet holes.

Friends, the church might need to learn from the logic behind this story. It’s a parable for our generation. Perhaps, the reason we are missing certain garland soldiers of Christ may be because we have failed to strengthen that part of the fellowship. We must desist from picking holes or drilling them by ourselves on weaker brethren. It is high time we strengthen them through love, prayers, compassion, empathy and grace.

Quote for the Day: “The same single broomstick never not changes the properties of its particles wether alone or in a bunch; but its unbreakably strengthened in the bunch.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to grow in spiritual strength and maturity, so that I may become a guiding light and a source of divine strength to those who are weak around me, leading them to Your truth, love, healing and strength — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
