Pearls Before the Pigs

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, January 19, 2024

Today’s Text: Matthew 7:1-6

Key Verse: Matthew 7:6 (ESV): “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.”

Have you wondered why there is so much contention and contempt in the church today? The secret might lay behind our carelessness with handling the Lord's instruction in this text. We would not have need all to strives and struggles that not only damage our Christian disposition, state of mind, and witness; but it also impede our experience of the divine.

The enemy knows that our state of mind is powerful in our spiritual life, so he seeks every avenue to penetrate into our soul and distracts our mind from God by making us to carelessly parade people who are not worthy of holy things upon God’s hallowed alters. He moves us to indulge certain attitudes that should never be once named among us. These things distract and retard faith and God’s works in our hands.

By this, Jesus forewarned us not to offer anything pertaining to doctrine to those who abuse the sacredness of the ministry, use it for self promotion, and growl and curse out the church. No aspect of our faith must be taken wantonly or entrusted to those who do not have genuine experience of rebirth. They will debase, trample it down, and profligate it because they cannot perceive its value. While the good news of the Kingdom is the pearls, such men and women are liken to dogs or pigs, and we must beware of them.

Friends, we have been called to "Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." (1Timothy 4:15-16).

Quote for the Day: “Dogs and pigs are symbols of gluttony, strife, and selfish greed. Such traits within the fold prevents the appreciation of Divine truth.” — Simon Olatunji

Prayer: Dear Lord and Father, I thank You because You always warns Your people of danger. I know Your Word warns us that in the Last Days we must be careful not to be deceived, not to be deceivers, and careful of deceivers, who make the gospel weak and false. Please help us to be on guard concerning these things — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
