Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, February 10, 2025

Today's Text: 2 Corinthians 4:8-10

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 4:9 (ESV): "Persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed"

When the emperor Valens threatened Eusebuis with confiscation of all his goods, torture, banishment, or even death, he answered the emperor like a courageous Christian, insisting that when one has surrendered all earthly attachments, he is already free from the fear of loss. When one's true home is heaven, no earthly exile can intimidate him. When a man's body is fragile and fleeting, physical pain loses its sting. And when death is simply a doorway to eternal freedom from sin and suffering, then it's no longer something to be feared. In Paul's second letter to the Corinthian church, he encourages them to persevere in the face of suffering and persecution. He reminds them that though they may be persecuted, they are not abandoned by God. He shares his own experiences of suffering, but emphasizes that he has not been destroyed.

The importance of remembering God's presence in the midst of suffering can never be overemphasized. As followers of Christ, we are called to take up our cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). This call to discipleship involves suffering, but it also involves the assurance of God's presence. In Psalm 23:4, David writes, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me." David's confidence in God's presence is a powerful encouragement that we are never alone in our suffering. If you ever felt like giving up or losing your joy because of the challenges and hardships you are facing, remember that you are not abandoned by God. He is with you, and His presence is your comfort and strength.

Action Steps: Ask God to remind you of His presence in the midst of suffering.

Focus on the promises of God's Word, which assure you of His presence and comfort.Share your struggles with a trusted friend or family member, and ask for their prayer and support. Surround yourself with worship music and uplifting testimonies that remind you of God's presence and power.

Quote for the Day: "Persecution is one of the natural consequences of living the Christian life. It is to the Christian what labor pains are to the expectant mothers and “growing pains” are to the growing child. No pain, no gain. No groanings, no glory." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, asking for the reminder of Your presence in the midst of suffering. Help me to focus on Your promises and to trust in Your comfort and strength. Give me opportunities to share my struggles with others and to receive their prayer and support — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
