Prayer Works

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Thursday, April 4, 2019

Today’s Text: Philippians 4:2-9

Key Verse: Philippians 4:6 (ESV): “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

How great and refreshing it is to know that our prayers touch the heart of our loving Heavenly Father! How much more blessed is it to know that He meets all needs. Hutson Taylor shared an amazing experience of how his faith was stirred in the fact that God hears and answers when we cry out to Him.

He was on his way to doing God’s will in China when his ship lost its sail due to lack of wind. The Sea current carried them toward cannibals’ island —so close they could see them building fires on the shore. They had done their best but to no avail. Then Mr. Taylor requested that each retire to his cabin, and pray the Lord to send an instant breeze.

After a brief moment of prayer, and certain that the answer was coming, Mr. Taylor asked the Captain to let down the sails. “What would be the good of that?” The Captain asked. “We asked God for a wind; and it’s coming immediately.” Taylor replied. Within minutes the wind did began to blow, and carried them safely past the danger. There is great power in prayer. That power is not in the person praying, but in the God who is being prayed to.

If you rely on yourself, power and efforts, you’d be frustrated. You’d face a tough, rough and difficult day. We have enough stressors around that without God’s help, we would be anxious over everything. But if we try the power of prayer, which helps us turn our reliance to God in times of pain or peace, we’d begin to experience new grace, strength and courage to go through difficult days and issues victoriously.

If Paul had been a prosperous man, who has no troubling issues similar to ours, it would have been futile and useless to counsel us not to be anxious, but pray! But he had suffered so much in Rome. At the time he wrote these words, he was awaiting trial, which might, so far as he knew, very probably end in death. But, he knows that prayer works. Do you believe this? Pray!

Quote for the Day: “Prayer releases a new grace that calms our fears. It gives a new strength that alleys our fears. When we pray, all anxieties melt into a glorious outburst of praise.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, teach me how to align my heart with Yours, and trust you in most difficult times. Help me toI choose to seek Your face even when doing so is difficult. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayer,
