Rain in Due Seasons

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, May 31, 2022

Today’s Text: Leviticus 26:3-13

Key Verse: Leviticus 26:4 (NIV): “I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.”

In Biblical Palestine, rain’s proper season spans from Cheshvan (mid-October) to Kislev (December). This is an expectant season for sowers in the land. It prepares the ground to receive the seed and gives hope to both sowers and eaters. God promises to send rain in its season—both the former and the latter, known as vernal rain, which prepares the harvest. God knows what is good for His people and never withholds any from them. This is a sure promise sealed by a covenant. God’s promise of rain symbolizes His blessings. Food and wine abound as a result of rain. Famine and drought typify any land devoid of rain.

However, this scripture reveals the connection between the spiritual conduct of God’s people and the promise of physical and material prosperity. The heart of all God’s promises is always a life of obedience and godliness. Anyone who wishes to eat the good of the land must position himself in obedience. Following God is profitable in all things. He gives rain in due season and is faithful in all His ways. The declarations of this scripture attest to the abundance of blessings that heaven invests on those who serve God obediently. We must realize that it does not belong to us, men, to make things happen for us. Yes, we try. We take steps. We formulate devices. But we lack the power to cause the blessings to come upon our efforts. Only God, in His perfect wisdom, unfailing love, and mighty power commands all blessings upon our lives. No matter the present dryness of the land, we can always trust and rely on God for showers of blessing.

Quote for the Day: “Fertility and blessings of any land is the product of God’s blessings. Those who love God’s way eat the good therein.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please look down in pity over our plight: our plants are wilting, the livestock suffer, the lands are parched and dry, and the people are in grief. Please send us Your rain, Oh Lord. Open the windows of heaven and water our land — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please look down in pity over our plight: our plants are wilting, the livestocks suffer, the lands are parched and dry; and the people are in grief. Please send us Your rain, Oh Lord. Open the windows of heaven and water our land — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
