Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, January 3, 2024
Today's Text: 1 Corinthians 10:23-31
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV): "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."
As we step into a new year, many of us are making resolutions to improve our lives, habits, relationships and success stories. But have we considered making resolutions that prioritize glorifying God? In the passage set before us today, the apostle Paul reminds us that everything we do should be done to the glory of God. Making resolutions that prioritize glorifying God is essential because it aligns our lives with God's purpose and plan. When we make decisions and take actions that bring glory to God, we demonstrate our love and commitment to Him and set ourselves up for a good year full of great exploits for God and for the good of humanity.
Recognizing our human frailty, we must acknowledge that our best intentions can be derailed by our inherent weaknesses. Despite our sincere efforts, our sinful nature can lead us astray. Therefore, we must rely on the transformative power of the Holy Spirit to empower us to fulfill our resolutions and live a life that honors God. To achieve this, we must make a deliberate commitment to align our actions with our duty and contribute positively to the well-being of others. We must maximize every moment, utilizing our time wisely and productively. We must live life with purpose and passion, making the most of every opportunity. We must act with integrity, refraining from actions that would bring shame or regret. We must speak kindly and graciously, avoiding words that harm or dishonor others; and lastly, we must cultivate a deep understanding of Scripture, studying it consistently and fervently to foster spiritual growth.
Action Steps: Reflect on your resolutions and ask yourself if they align with God's purpose and plan. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to keep your resolutions and live a life that glorifies God. Study the Scriptures and seek to grow in your knowledge of God's Word.
Quote for the Day: Doing the most to the glory of God, and the blessing of humanity is man's life's obligation" (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us to prioritize glorifying You in all we do. Help us to make resolutions that align with Your purpose and plan, and empower us by Your Holy Spirit to keep them. May our lives bring glory to Your name, now and forevermore— in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
