Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, March 22, 2020
Today’s Text: Nahum 1:1-9
Key Verse: Nahum 1:7 (NIV): ”The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”
The word "good" is from Hebrew tob, an absolute singular adjective meaning something deeper than pleasant or pleasing but revealing the prophet affirmation of God’s attribute that promotes the happiness of His creatures. God exerts His mighty power in saving, not destroying; and in mercy, not judgment. His omniscient eye watches all who trust Him. The phrase “He knows” means that He is aware of, acknowledges, and recognizes them as His loyal and loving children, and takes care of them.
We are blessed with this happy reminder today as we navigate Prophet Nahum’s journal of God’s faithful love. He reminds us that, regardless of our world’s present troubles, we all, who belong to Him, may trust God’s love ever to provide for us; His wisdom to be our infallible guide; and His power to be our strength and shield—so that whenever we feel hemmed in on every side, we have no other or better place of escape except in Him. Have you placed your trust in Him?
Quote for the Day: "God’s goodness is absolute—not in anyway expressible in human term or form. ” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, knowing You gives such peace in your goodness. I do not need to be dismayed. Help me to know your presence in the midst of my circumstances and draw strength from you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
