Seek God Early

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, February 20, 2024

Today’s Text: Psalm 27:1-11

Key Verse: Psalm 27:4 (ESV): "One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”

Seeking God is an all-important but all-forsaken topic! The Bible stresses the place of seeking God early so much that we can't miss it. It is the duty of man to seek the Lord and find the divine presence before the busy-ness of the day begins. Like the Psalmist longed to gaze upon God’s face and seek His guidance, it us important that our waking (or first) thoughts of the day be of the One, who.made us.

Our first moves must always be towards His word (Joshua 1:8).

As we prioritize seeking Him, He grants us wisdom, peace, and a heart that stays steadfast in His love (Proverbs 8:17). He helps us abide in Him throughout the day, and causes His goodness to guide us on our journeys (Psalm 23:6). Brethren, there are too mamy plans in our hearts and too many enterprise to perform,  but let us seek the Lord early. It is only in that our day will be filled with purpose and promise (Proverbs 3:6).

Seeking God early is starting your day by focusing on Him, connecting with Him through prayer, meditating in His words, and setting your priorities according to His will. It means making God your top priority, seeking His guidance and wisdom before tackling daily tasks and challenges. By seeking God early, you're setting a foundation for a day lived with purpose, trust, and dependence on Him. It's like starting your day with a compass pointing towards God, helping you stay aligned with His love and plan.

Abraham rose early to obey God's call and journey to the promised land (Genesis 12:1-4). Moses spent early morning hours with God on Mount Sinai, receiving guidance and wisdom (Exodus 19:3-8). David rose early to pray and meditate on God's law, finding strength and guidance (Psalm 143:8). And above all,  Jesus, our Lord, often rose early to pray and connect with God, starting His day with divine guidance (Mark 1:35):  showing us that seeking God early sets a powerful precedent for our day.

Quote for the Day: “There is power in the earliest, most still and quie hours of a day. It releases the soul's most serene and least calm moments, and releases divine energies upon us." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come to you with a willing heart. Let me seek you early, and depend on you fully. Help me prioritize my time with you, and quiet my soul to listen for your guidance. May my day be shaped by your loving presence, and may I find strength in your unfailing promises. As I seek you first, fill me with your wisdom, peace, and grace. I trust in your faithfulness, and depend on your constant care — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
