Self Restraint

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, April 13, 2022

Today’s Text: Galatians 5:16-26

Key Verses: Galatians 5:22–23 (ESV): “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

We all come to Jesus raw. Here and there, we have diverse areas of our lives calling for the Master’s touch — areas in which we yield to adamic impulses. For one it could be gossip; for another, fits of temper; for another, destructive thought patterns, or still, for another it may be sexual misconduct, etc,. And except we allow the fruit of Christ’s work in our lives, those fleeting impulses and little sparks can degenerate into permanent damaging life issues. The ongoing scenery of Will Smith’s action at the 2022 Oscar reveals the significance of the grace of self-control. Brethren, possessing self-control is crucial to surviving the present age of rage when resisting temptation and avoiding conformity to worldly dictates and increasingly difficult. The folly of quick-temper is consistently reproved throughout scripture. As believers, we are reminded and called to rise above spontaneity. We are to pursue decorum and demonstrate gravity and character.

The Bible makes it clear that we are guided by the Holy Spirit, which God gives us for power and love and self-control. Therefore, whenever we find ourselves in a tough situation, remember this text, and remember our Savior’s perfect example of self-control.

Quote for the Day: “Self control is an undeniable evidence of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s life.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to develop strong self control that is rooted in the realization that I am God's. Let the fruit of self-control grow in me like a tree of strength so that I maycontrol what I say and do — making my whole life subject to Your spirit — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
