Today’s Text: Psalm 16: 1-11
Key Verse: Psalm 16:8 (NKJV): “I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”
Focus is a major issue in today’s Christianity and spirituality. Matter of fact, it touches private, social and public aspects of life. Have you wondered why people can watch home videos or social media skits for hours and yet need help focusing on a few hour homework, prayer or Bible study? As a pastor I have seen believers in disruptive, and distracted moods one minute during services, clamoring to close and go home, and in the next minutes running to hours after closing, they are happy to stay back socializing and never wishing to leave. There is this problem with focus.
But let us learn from how David spurred himself to focus in the text before us today: “I keep my eyes always on the Lord.” Especially, the result of keeping our eyes on the Lord is that He becomes our strength. He stands by our sides so that we are not shaken. He shields us against our foes and helps us. When we keep our eyes focused on the Lord, He is always with us regardless of the battles we may be facing.
The distractions are real; but not only does He strengthen us when we maintain our focus on Him, He also gives us joy. “Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure...” (vs 9). Zephaniah 3:17 testifies to how the Lord takes great delight in us. And when we keep our eyes on Him, He makes known to us the path of life; and fills us with joy in His presence.
Quote for the Day: “Focus provides energy that powers our drives. The most energy we need to accomplish real hard task comes from focus. There is no good performance except it hinges on the strength of focus and concentration.“
Prayer: Dear God, my prayer today is that you will help me to turn my eyes and my focus to Jesus. So that I can combat anything that the enemy tries to use to distract me. Help me to remember your protection and love for me — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
