Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, February 27, 2020
Today’s Text: Proverbs 6:12–19
Key Verses: Proverbs 6:16–17 (ESV): ”There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood.
The word hate here is been used hyperbolically to describe God's superlative rejection of the six things listed as abomination unto Him. It does not mean that God has an attribute of hate, but it is used in the same sense in which He was said to hate Esau and love Jacob, or hate iniquity. When one carefully look at the six things listed in this proverbs, one finds that anything crooked and perverse may never find God’s favor.
From Hebrew studies, the word froward means distortion, crooked, perverse or being perverse. Webster defines it as habitual defiance and headstrong. In Proverbs 3:32, God’s word tells us that being froward is an abomination unto God. Therefore, as children of the kingdom, we must put perverse and crooked speaking far away from us. We must be careful to love what God loves and hate what God hates. We must put froward mouth away from us (Prov. 4:24), and only qiembrace whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; virtuous, and praiseworthy.
Quote for the Day: "Frowardness is worse than sentiment; it is lifestyle of consistent resentment.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to mortify the seeds of crooked, lying, backbiting, cursing, and a proud mouth, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
