Today’s Scripture Threshings for Sunday, February 10 , 2019
Today’s Text: 1 Peter 2:1-12
Key Verse: ”But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (vs. 9, ESV)
A forester once found a young eagle who had fallen out of his nest. He took it home and raised it in his yard where it, though is king of all birds, soon learned to eat and behave like the chickens. Since it was confined to live in the barnyard with chickens; feed and trained to be a chicken, it never learned to fly, and never realized it’s identity. Though it still has the heart of an eagle, it completely lost the mind of the eagle, and therefore was no longer an eagle. Often, people mocked it by lifting it toward the sky saying, “You belong to the sky and not to the earth. Spread your wings and fly.” Unfortunately the eagle did not know who he was. He sees the chickens eating their food, jumped down to be with them again.
so, a naturalist took the bird to the roof of the house and urged him again, saying, “You are an eagle. Spread your wings and fly.” But the eagle flip-flopped in fear back to the chicken barn. Finally the naturalist took the eagle out of the barnyard to a high mountain. There he held the king of the birds high above him and encouraged him again, saying, “You are an eagle. You belong to the sky. Stretch forth your wings and fly.” There the eagle looked around, back towards the barnyard, up to the sky, saw other eagles, and began to tremble. Slowly he stretched his wings, and with a triumphant cry, soared away into the heavens.
Are many believers not like that chicken-eagle? Are you living your Christians life with a completely lost or forgotten identity. crowing about like ordinary men. Have you forgotten you are chosen and who chose you? You have the heart of royal priesthood, but living like a finicky. God wants you to know that you are His holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim His excellencies on earth.
Quote for the Day: “People and matters are only differentiated or designated by nomenclature; what truly define and identify men and things is character. That is why, though water is water, yet it loses its identity when it joins the ocean.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that I would stop trying to find my identity in anything other than being Your child, a child of the King and a citizen in the Kingdom of God. In Jesus’ most precious name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayer,
