Step Out By Faith

Today's Text: Hebrews 11:1-6

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:6 (ESV): "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."

The meditation before us today is set in the context of the great faith chapter or "Hall of Faith" of the Bible, where we are blessed to have a list of Old Testament faithfuls who demonstrated faith in God. Their lives teach us that faith is not just a belief, but a way of life that pleases God and leads to reward. It is an uncommon scriptural text meant to encourage all believers to step out by faith, just like the heroes of faith listed in the chapter. The key verse reminds us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Therefore, we must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.

Stepping out by faith involves trusting God even when we cannot see the outcome. It involves being obedient to His word, even when it seems difficult or impossible. As believers, we are called to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). We must trust that God is working everything out for our good, even when we cannot see it (Romans 8:28).

If you ever felt like holding back or being hesitant to step out by faith, just remember that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). We all have our struggles and hot buttons. The disciples also struggled against the wind and waves during the night, but Jesus walked on the water towards them. When Peter was commanded to step out into the water by faith, he did and was not disappointed. In what situation do we find ourselves today? Let us be encouraged to step out by faith, knowing that God is faithful and will reward those who diligently seek Him.

Action Steps: Ask God to increase your faith and help you to trust Him more. Take a step of faith today, even if it seems difficult or impossible. Surround yourself with supportive fellow believers who can encourage and strengthen your faith. Focus on God's promises and remind yourself that He is faithful to His word.

Quote for the Day: "Doubt is human. Having faith does not mean lacking doubt, but it is trusting God's goodness and sovereignty in spirit of your doubts." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, asking for an increase in faith. Help me to trust You more and to step out by faith, even when it seems difficult or impossible. Give me the courage to be obedient to Your word and to trust in Your goodness and sovereignty — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
