Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, February 22, 2024
Today’s Text: James 1:2-8
Key Verse: James 1:8 (ESV): "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."
God releases and reveals great wisdom through nature. We can just browse our world and gain tremendous insights. Things that we see daily speak to our conscience and sensitivity. The Chameleons is a small creature, but God uses it to challenge us from its positive and negative traits. First, the positive: We can live single lives even when circumstances around us changes, and we are forced to be who we are not.
Or, we are needing, like the chameleon, to blend in, we must seek God's help not to conform to the world but to stand out as a shining light. The chameleon may adapt to its environment but its true nature remains unchanged. Our identity in Christ must remain steadfast. We must never live a double life but remain authentic and true to our faith.
On the negative side, the chameleon teaches us what and how not to be. David wrote in Psalm 119:11, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." We must keep God's word in our heart and not compromise our faith. Our words and actions must reflect and reveal who we are: our love, truth, and faith. We must always walk in integrity, never changing who we are to fit the world's mold.
Instead, if the world ever sees any transformation in us, it should be a reflection of God's work in us, changing us from glory to glory into the image of His son, Jesus Christ. The yoke that Jesus invites us to take upon us helps us both to learn from Him and lean on Him; not from or on the world.
Quote for the Day: “The one who lives two lives only deceives himself: On the outside, trying to present a perfect image. And on the inside, hiding flaws and weaknesses, feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and empty." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Your words invite me to come to you, to lay down my burdens and find rest in you. Help me to recognize that trying to live a double life is a heavy burden that I don't need to carry. Show me how to be authentic and true to myself, just as you are authentic and true to me. May I embrace your easy yoke and light burden, trusting that your grace is sufficient for me. May my outer life reflect the beauty of my inner life in you — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
