Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, September 22, 2024
Today's Text: Luke 15:11-32
Key Verse: Luke 15:24 (NLT): "For this son of mine was dead and has come back to life! He was lost and has been found!"
This morning, we are reminded of this wonderful familiar parable that illustrates God's unconditional love and mercy over a wayward child, which depicts who we were before the mercy of God appeared. The boy was the younger of two son's. He rebelled by demanding for inheritance while his father was yet alive. An action that symbolizes our sinful departure from God. We often choose the path of destruction over providence. And, just like the boy squandered his wealth, faced poverty, and humiliation; we take the grace of God and squander it on the laps of sin. Of which we face costly and devastating consequences.
However, a turning point comes whenever a sinner returns to God. The prodigal son recognized his mistakes and returned to his father, hoping for forgiveness. The father's love and eagerness to welcome, forgive, and celebrate him demonstrate God's love and mercy to us if and when we do the same. His love is unconditional and forgiving. Whereas our sin leads to destruction, but repentance brings restoration. This story illustrates a simple gospel truth: whenever a sinner humbles himself before God and surrenders to Him, he essentially positions him or herself for restoration and spiritual growth. Has sin tossed you off from the loving presence of the Lord? Have you been emptied of all spiritual blessings? There is forgiveness, and restoration for you today if you return to our heavenly father's unending love.
Action Steps: Reflect on your own journey. Return to the Father through prayer and repentance. Experience God's love and forgiveness.
Quote for the Day: The love we are promised we we cone to our Heavenly Father is not based on our worthiness. It is based on His unwavering integrity and character." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your unending love and mercy. Help me recognize my sinful departures and return to You. Grant me humility and surrender, that I may experience Your restoration — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
