The Just Shall Live By Faith

Today's Text: Romans 1:8-17

Key Verse: Romans 1:17 (ESV): "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, 'The righteous shall live by faith.'"

I know no better Scripture used to summarize the entire book of Romans than the key verse before us today. Why is the apostle so courageous to declare the gospel about Jesus everywhere? It because he has a first hand experience of how this message is nothing less than the power of God for everyone who believes, both Jews and Gentiles. It is that context that he wrote his letter to the Romans, to explain the power of the Gospel to save all people. Tge apostle's goal is to remind us that the Gospel reveals the righteousness of God, which is received by faith. He has a biblical warrant for this in Habakkuk 2:4, which says, "The righteous shall live by faith."

The importance of living by faith can never be overemphasized. As followers of Christ, we are called to trust in Him and His promises, even when we cannot see the outcome. Living by faith involves trusting God's sovereignty, providence, and goodness, even in the midst of uncertainty and adversity. While reflecting on the importance of faith, Martin Luther said that faith is the yes of the heart, a confirmation of the promises of God. To him, faith is not just a feeling or an emotion, but a confident trust in the promises of God.

If you ever felt like giving up or losing your faith because of the challenges and hardships you are facing, remember that you are not alone. Many biblical heroes, including Abraham, Moses, and David, lived by faith, and their stories encourage us to do the same. In the midst of uncertainty and adversity, we must remember that the righteous shall live by faith. We must trust in God's promises, even when we cannot see the outcome.

Action Steps: Ask God to give you the faith to trust in His promises, even when you cannot see the outcome. Focus on the power and effectiveness of God's word, which reveals His righteousness and promises. Share your faith with others, even in the midst of uncertainty and adversity. Surround yourself with supportive fellow believers who can encourage and strengthen your faith.

Quote for the Day: "You must outgrow such faith if it is a one-time event of religious spur. Faith must be a continuous process of growing in trust and understanding of God's character till it (faith itself) becomes your character." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, asking for the faith to trust in Your promises, even when I cannot see the outcome. Help me to focus on the power and effectiveness of Your word. Give me opportunities to share my faith with others, even in the midst of uncertainty and adversity. Surround me with supportive fellow believers who can encourage and strengthen my faith — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
