Today’s Text: Philippians 3:12-16
Key Verse: Philippians 3:13 (NKJV): “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.”
We all have ambitions; and for the most cases, it is as much a mindset as it is a lifestyle. For an ambitious child of God, goals are to be pursued with a sense of discipline; not just an eager desire for achievements or a state of mind, but a way s/he lives to fulfill God’s glorious plans and purpose on earth. There is always a powerful force within each believer. That force may be deployed towards God or towards fleshly cravings.
Paul, the apostle sets us a good example of how it is the responsibility of each of us to chose what we do with that inner force called desire. That is why he says, I count not myself. His use of the “I” in that phrase provides an emphasis on personal decision. While it is evident that some are reckless with ambition and others thought themselves perfect, there is that “one thing” that is driving the desire of St. Paul, which he will not allow any sense of pride and achievement to rival.
This text reveals the secret of Paul’s life so that we too can strive to become men and women of “one thing.” So that like this Apostle, we too can imitate the sort of Christian that he was; make God’s aim our aim; concentrate all effort on this one aim — pressing toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus — this “one thing” is enough for us.
Quote for the Day: “Eagerness for God, earnestness in spirit takes us onward toward the prize of the upward call.“
Prayer: Dear God, May my heart be full of zeal and passion for You. May it be directEd by You o Lord. Help me to live today with zeal that is jealous for the greatness of your name. Make it my lifelong desire to love You without reserve, and to keep my spiritual fervor as long as I live — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
