Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, April 22, 2024
Today’s Text: Titus 2:11-15
Key Verse: Titus 2:11, 12 (NIV): "For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."
In a world that often values yes, more, and excess, the grace of learning to say no is a revolutionary act. Many people including Christians are not able to say no. And, indeed, saying no especially when others say yes makes you unpopular and out of fashion. You are perceived as proud and arrogant, unfriendly and difficult. But being able to say no is a declaration of boundaries, which every believer is given grace to do.
Why do we need grace to say no to all the permissive and alluring realities of the age? In a perilous time such as this, saying no requires courage, discipline, and a deep understanding of our calling. It means recognizing the.faces of ungodliness and acknowledging that saying yes to ungodly lives means a no to the abundant life in Christ. Society may put us down but Christ's grace helps us take a stand without guilt, shame, or apology. It reminds us of our worth and value in Christ and emboldens us to create space for the things that truly matter.
Quote for the Day: "Most struggles with besseting sins can be traced to saying yes too quickly and not saying no soon enough." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to embrace your grace that teaches me to say no even when saying so needs courage, love, and freedom. Give me the freedom to live, to love, and to be who you want me to be without apology — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
