The Promise Keeper

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, July 31, 2024

Today’s Text:  Hebrews 10:19-25

Key Verse: Hebrews 10:23 (ESV): "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful."

We are all fond of this Scripture: "Faithful is He who has promised," but how much do we truly trust God's faithfulness and reliability in fulfilling His promises. Today's meditation encourages trust and confidence in God's word. We serve a promise-keeper who will always follow through on His commitments. Why not take a moment to reflect on God's faithfulness in your life?! Look back on times when He has kept His promises, even when circumstances seemed uncertain.

The text not only encourages us; but it also commands us to hold fast to our confession of faith. To do this, the author says, we must remember God's faithfulness and the importance of perseverance on our part. Our basis for this, he emphasizes, is God's reliability and trustworthiness. Our God is faithful to His promises, and His actions always align with His word. This assurance encourages us to trust Him, even in challenging times. When we remember the story of Abraham and Sarah who received a promise from God that they would have a son despite their advanced age and how God remained faithful to His promise and Isaac was born; we too can be confident, today, that God is a promise keeper.

To be inheritors of the promises, we must hold fast, i.e. to firmly grasp and hold onto our profession of faith, which is rooted in the hope of salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ alone. And, the clause, "without wavering" adds emphasis to the importance of steadfast commitment and stability in our faith, not being easily shaken or given to doubt. Why do we do this? "For he who promised is faithful" This is the foundation of our hope and confidence. God is the one who made the promises, and He is faithful to fulfill them. His faithfulness is the reason we can hold onto our hope without wavering.

Action Steps: Reflect on God's promises in Scripture and how they apply to your life. Identify areas where you need to trust God's faithfulness. Pray God to help you trust His promises.

Quote for the Day: "We don't have a confetti promise like men's from God. Men throws up promises at occasions. That's why they are easily blown away by the winds of circumstance. But God's promises are the very bedrock on which we stand." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness. Help me trust Your promises, even when the journey is uncertain. Give me continued grace to always enjoy Your reliability as the foundation of my hope and confidence — in Jesus's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
