The Weed Tangled Wheat

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, August 11, 2023

Today’s Text: Matthew 13:24-30

Key Verse: Matthew 13:29 (ASV): “But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them.”

Matthew 13 has many allegories: the one before us particularly reveals God’s mindfulness of and for His wheats. Like the farmer in this story, God never intended weeds in His wheatyard. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jer 29:11) Says the Lord! So, God’s plantation in your life is always good. Your life is God’s beautiful wheatyard or vineyard. And wheats in the Bible are indicators of life and sustenance—a symbol of abundance and blessings. It is also commonly used as a long-standing symbol of fertility, bounty and resurrection.

That you ever find weeds among the wheats is an evident of an enemy’s work. The passage reveals how God cares for every little wheat so much that he doesn’t want any of them to perish. God is aware of that weed in your ministry, business, household, and life. And if He so choses to keep them any longer, in His wisdom, then do not pull them.

Timing is everything in the scheme of God. He always waits for the best of times. And you’ve God to trust Him. He knows that pulling the weed would jeopardize the wheat. We are always frightened by what’s on the surface. Meanwhile the root is more  critical because while anchoring the wheats in the soil, and absorbing water and nutrients for their stems, they are tangled with the weeds’.

We don’t always notice what the enemy had done in our lives until the plants’ heads begin to shoot and produce fruits. That is why we must be careful to follow God’s instructions while dealing with the weeds. Don’t follow your own devices. Lest you risk your precious wheat. I am praying for you that as you keep your harvest in view, the Lord shall bless you with wisdom to be careful and profitable reaper. You will gather your wheat great joy in Jesus’ name.

Quote for the Day: “The key to a healthy spiritual life is being aware of every sprouting weed in your soul and the best way to take them out and keep your spirit pure.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me the wisdom to get rid of any weed the poses like trellis in my life. Give me the reaper’s wisdom for maximum harvest — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
