There was a Man (Part Two)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Today’s Text: Luke 19: 1-10

Key Verses: Luke 19:5 (ESV): “And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.”"

Yesterday, we began to turn our searchlight on the life of Zacchaeus, the Jericho based chief tax-collector who was as not living out his name until he met Jesus. The name Zacchaeus in Greek means pure or innocent; but we already know how his reputation runs fowl of his name. Religion, efforts, good works make us names; but non of those or any other things make the character as our encounter with Jesus.

Going to church, doing good works and having good intentions are not bad at all; but they are not the big deal when it comes to life in union with Christ. They are like climbing the sycamore tree to see Jesus. They position or predispose us. To experience needed life changing connection with God, we must hark the voice of Jesus’ call and respond. The man Zacchaeus made haste at Jesus’ voice. Embracing God’s word with joy is a key to it’s taking root in our heart, and finding the right soul to thrive.

Like Zacchaeus, would you hurry down from your sycamore of sin, pride, and doubt; and  rather reach out to Jesus who is calling out to you? Would you, like him (Zacchaeus), be willing to do everything within your power to obey Him? If any man listens to the voice of Jesus and opens the door of his heart, not only with the Lord be at home with him; but He also shall come in and sup with him, and he with Him (Revelation 3:20).

Quote for the Day: “God’s words are never passive; but they gain more active force, fresh significance, and new relevance in the lives of anyone who responds positively to them.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for always reaching out for me. I'm determined to live with an attitude that glorifies You. Help me to keep my heart humble, my mind focused on you, and in my actions to embrace Your words always — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
