Things to Remember

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Monday, March 11, 2019

Today’s Text: Psalm 103:1-5

Key Verse: Psalm 103:2 (HCSB): ”My soul, praise the LORD, and do not forget all His benefits.

God has really blessed the human race with incredible ability to remember things. It is really amazing how things pop up from our memory. However, due to the fallen nature, we tend to dwell on things to be rather forgotten while we lose sight of things that are meant to be remembered.

Looking at Scriptures, we see how the Jews are exceptionally good at remembering things either that happened to them or told to them by their ancestors. At same time, we see how easy it is for them to forget God’s goodness to them. This is equally true with you and I. The Psalmist realizes this weakness. He therefore charged himself never to lose sight of God’s gracious love. The Hebrew word tiš·kə·ḥî rendered “forget” in today’s text literally means not paying attention to something. We are blessed with good memories but we often fail to pay attention to things to remember. We’d rather dwell on past hurts and hates, past panics and pains, which are actually meant to be forgotten and left behind.

Things to remember are summed into one phrase by David — “all his benefits!” From forgiveness of sins to all the lavish deployment of blessings which we are altogether unworthy of: healing, redemption, provision and protection. These are things we can’t do without, and can’t afford by ourselves, which God freely bestows, and yet we easily forget.

Our Lord knows how prone we are to lose sight of things to be remembered. He understands the weakness of memory — how notoriously unreliable it is. That’s why, having taught all the attitude of the Kingdom, revealed how God is, and exemplified how man should be, He also promised the abiding Holy Spirit who shall continue to bring all things to our remembrance.

Quote for the Day: “It is an utterly inexcusable trespass to pass through life without full recognition and appreciation of the maker, giver, and sustainer of life.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear LORD, I am grateful for your steadfast love which is from everlasting to everlasting upon me. I thank you for your unfailing goodness to me. Help me Lord, never to lose sight of your unwavering love for me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayer,
