Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, December 14, 2022
Today’s Text: Luke 1:5-25
Key Verses: Luke 1:8,9 (NIV): “Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.”
Bible stories are helpful for teaching vital wisdom to peoples of all ages and generations — from Genesis to Revelation, we are blessed with distinguished characters who played notable roles in the unfolding spiritual drama of ages. Another notable characters in the story of Christmas that gives life to the plot, apart from Joseph and Mary, is a priest called Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist. Though he was not directly associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, he became important because of the role his seed shall play as the forerunner for the coming Messiah, which is Jesus Christ, our Lord.
God has a way of reaching out for people who lead yielded and dedicated life. When Zechariah was chosen to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and burn incense; he could give a thousand excuses, and tun after money, social connections, or pursue other sensual things. But he chose the way of service. That is why he didn’t miss his golden moment of angelic visit that would change his life forever and change the entire history of Israel and the rest of the world.
Attitude is everything, dear friend! You never can tell how your action and inaction will become precursory to divine possibilities. The story of Christmas cannot be complete without the occurrences in the life of Zechariah. So, what are there in the life of this priest for us to learn? Never shy away or cower out whenever God shows up in your life or calls you to a task, even if it is a non colorful or undesirable one. For Zechariah, there was a clear deficiency; but rather than let that deflect him away from God’s plan, he demonstrated trust in God’s power to work through his deficiency.
Quote for the Day: “The power of God, and His purpose are greater than all the issues in our lives. Any vessel that would be used of God must look beyond his issues and trust God unconditionally to do his work the way He wills.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please inspire my heart to serve well, not as to men, but unto you. So that whether we serve in public places, or love our family and friends, or serving in the assembly of your people, or in our vocations, and even in our eating and drinking as unto you, and for the glory of your holy name— in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
