To Love God is to Hate Evil

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, September 23, 2024

Today's Text: Psalm 119:128-136

Key Verse: Hebrews 1:9 (NLT): "You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; this is why God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy beyond your companions."

As God's dearly beloved children, we are called to love righteousness and hate iniquity. The word righteous is actually used through the Scriptures to describe us because of this relationship with God. And, indeed, our lived are characterized by love for righteousness through daily delight in God's commands, a longing for purity, and a godly desire or zeal for obedience to God's Word.

As children of God, we don't only understand the danger of lawlessness and iniquity: how they corrupt the heart, separate us from God, and lead to depravity and destruction; but we understand the power and blessings of loving God and His righteousness. God releases His anointing and joy in the Holy Spirit upon His faithful children. He blesses them with divine guidance and grants them spiritual strength.

In Micah 6:8, we are admonished that "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." God wants us to walk and live right. He wants to love the life of righteousness. He wants us to act justly, standing for what's right, even when it's hard. He wants us to love mercy, showing compassion and kindness to all peoples. And, God wants us to walk humbly before Him, recognizing His sovereignty and guidance. No one cares for this lifestyle that God cares about without experiencing His anointing with joy than all his companions. He stands different in this world.

Action Steps: Evaluate your actions. Reflect on how much value you place on love righteousness. Identify areas of compromise in your life. Seek God's guidance, and delight in His commands.

Quote for the Day: "Righteousness is not just a standard; it's a state of the heart that longs for God's perfection." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to love You, love righteousness and hate iniquity. Grant me a heart that delights in Your commands. Anoint me with the oil of joy as I seek Your righteousness — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
