Trust God for Renewal

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, October 7, 2024

Today’s Text: Isaiah 40:25-31

Key Verse: Isaiah 40:31 (ESV): "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

There is a natural ability found in starfish. They are able to regrow and renew lost parts: an area in which mammals have limitations. That's why there was skepticism when English physician, Cynthia Illingworth, discovered, in 1974, that children who accidentally sever their finger tips and spleens can naturally renew and grow them back without any treatment or surgery. To her, the only necessary treatment is to do no treatment. Just trust the recreative power of God, clean and cover it with a bandage, and the finger tip, including the nail, will grow back as if nothing had happened to it within 11 to 12 weeks.

The most important requirements for regrowth and renewal is that we must keep hands off the injury, and patiently trust in God's creative power to renew the lost spleenn. In fact, she opined that any operation performed on that injury destroys its ability to grow back. You will agree with me that trusting God for renewal during such difficult situations can be challenging, but it is actually then that faith in God is needed at its best.

It doesn't have to be childhood loss of fingertips. Yours may be an emotional turmoil. You may be going through pain, fear, and uncertainty that overwhelm you. Yours may a situation in which no hope is in view — only limited perspectives. You can't see the bigger picture even though something says God's plan may be brewing around the corner. Do you have doubts and questions such as, "Why, God?" Or, "Lord, will You really restore?" Cynthia Illingworth's hypothesis agrees with today's text. If you can hand off that situation, and wait on the Lord, you will experience renewal.

Friends, you've got to encourage yourself in trustful reliance in God's promises: That "weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." (Psalm 30:5) God specializes in working all things together for the good of those who love Him. Your long awaited renewal of strength, purpose, destiny, and of spirit shall come if you trust in God's faithfulness and reflect on past experiences. Shift your gaze away from the loss or injury, focus it upon then sovereign, loving, good and able character of God. Choose to trust God and daily rely on His promises and you shall witness what it means to experience restoration of lost years, Renewal of strength, beauty for ashes, and of course, the new creation in Christ.

Action Steps: Journal your struggles and prayers. Find and meditate on biblical promises for renewal. Walk in obedience.

Quote for the Day: "Be like the eagles, grow your wings in the stillness of waiting. Fnd the wings of faith to rise above life's challenges. God's timing may be hard, but His strength never fails those who wait on Him." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote).

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You, weary and longing for renewal. I wait on You, trusting in Your promise to renew my strength, lift my spirit, and transform my struggles. Cause me to mount up with wings like eagles, soar above my life's challenges, run without growing weary, and walk without fainting. I claim Your strength for my weakness, and receive Your hope for my despair. Thank You for being our Rock, our Refuge, and our Renewal — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
