Today's Text: Psalm 75:1-10
Key Verses: Psalm 75:6–7 (ESV): "For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another."
I have been moved to invite y'all to reflect on the words of Asaph, a Levite and worship leader in David's court. Asaph probably watched David's impossible, unbelievable and yet undeniable elevation and couldn't hold it in but to burst in to a song of thanksgiving and praise. There's been a time of national crisis: Israel was facing threats from neighboring nations and experiencing internal turmoil. He witnessed how God's presence and power with His anointed one and people put down one and set up another. How He punishes the wicked and rewards the righteous. Definitely, no one else could help a man beaten down to the ashes for men to trample upon; except the Lord!
Asaph's declaration reminds us that true promotion and success come not from human efforts or earthly sources, but from God alone. He is, therefore, encouraging all peoples to trust in God's power and providence. For He alone is in control, and His sovereignty is not limited by human power or circumstances. Let us always trust in God's justice and judgment. He will ultimately set things right. To trust in God's power and providence is to fully believe that He is in control of everything that happens in the world, and that even in difficult times, His plan is good and working for our ultimate benefit. Knowing this allows us to surrender our anxieties and trust in His guidance and strength. This should be a core part of your life as a believer. Trust in God. He will ultimately reward His righteous ones. Stay resilient and strong through this year of exploits!
Action Steps: Take a moment to reflect on your life and circumstances. Are there areas where you're relying on human efforts or earthly sources for success? Surrender those areas to God, and seek His promotion and favor instead.
Quote for the Day: "If you ever desire true greatness; never measure it by earthly standards. Seek God's unstoppable sovereign provision for promotion and favor." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to trust in Your sovereignty and provision. May I seek Your promotion and favor in all things, and submit to Your just and perfect judgment — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
