Daily Scripture Threshing for today, Tuesday, June 18, 2019
Our Text: Luke 9:18-27 Key Verse: Luke 9:24 (KJV): "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.”
This verse speaks of one of the great paradoxes of the Kingdom of God, in which loss is gain. Just last week, I sent out prayer request for increased strength and resources to do the work; but over the weekend, an agent of the enemy broke into my office and stole what I consider great assets for the work.
In this loss and pain, God reminds me of this scripture. He also reminds me of Beethoven, the great composer of the 18th century who suffered later part of his life in deafness. We all know how hearing is essential to creating music; but Beethoven turned his great loss into a great asset of lasting value. His grandest music came with all distractions shut out, melodies flooded in on him as fast as his pen could write them down.
Today's text calls us to see kingdom value in earthly loss, and place more worth on inner than outer values. To do so, let us learn to faithfully follow the lifestyle and teachings of Christ; never complain; keep hope alive regardless; count all blessings; and turn our pain to praise.
Quote for the Day: “It is often in our moments of human weakness that tangible spiritual strength is released.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for being there for me, through all the good times and bad; and for working all things together for my good. Help me to trust you more, regardless of what I face, in Jesus' name. Amen.
